Making a Difference Award
Lyman Henn congratulates
the following team members on their recent promotion.
Lyman Henn was part of the design
and construction team awarded the 2006 APWA PROJECT OF THE YEAR
AWARD in the Environment Category, $10 Million to $100 Million
Division. The award was given to recognize the Lake Pleasant
Water Transmission Line Project in greater Phoenix, Arizona.
The project included an approximately 25-mile long, 78-inch
inside diameter treated water transmission pipeline.
Lyman Henn provided design and construction management
services for an 1800 ft long tunneled section of the pipeline
to traverse below an environmentally sensitive Phoenix Mountain
Park Preserve. The eastern half of the tunnel used a portal
access and "drill and blast" excavation and steel sets and wood
lagging, or rock bolts and mine straps for temporary support.
The western half of the tunnel used a 60 ft deep shaft for
access, roadheader excavation and steel sets and shotcrete for
temporary support. The pipe was grouted in place using cellular
concrete and contact grouting. Tunneling avoided unacceptable impacts
of surface construction to the Mountain Park Preserve.
Lyman Henn served as specialty tunnel subconsultant
to Stanley Consultants, the overall pipeline designer and construction
manager for the project. PCL Civil Constructors was the
general contractor performing CM at Risk for the City of Phoenix,
Water Services Department.
